Bar Chart Problem with Date

Hello,

Whenever, I creat a Bar chart out of some data having date, the chart shows
a thin line or bar. But if I put the first date as a text (mean if I put this
sign ' to convert it into text) then the bar shows up. Otherwise it get
thinner. What would be the problem??

Please advise.
