Basic Visio Help Needed - Process Maps

Hi there,

We've recently got Visio 2003 in work, but as our training won't be until
September, we are learning ourselves at the moment, which is going very
slowly!

In the meantime, I'm trying to create a Process Map to show the work that
each person in the office does over the course of the year, and to link each
process with an arrow to show the order of events.

I've manually drew a very simple example here:

My first query is how should I go about creating the new document? The
closest look 'wizard template' I've found is one of the data flow diagrams,
but I've been told that we're trying to create Process Maps (but the
similarly named template in Visio doesn't seem quite right.

Secondly, what is the best method for adding new people to the list? In my
first example, it was all so bunched up that I never had room to add
anyone - is there a way to do this without messing up the existing drawing?

And thirdly, if you look at my simple example, the process of upgrading
computers is done my two people, but I don't know how to insert a process
box in Visio with a dotted line (to show who doesn't carry out this
process). Can anyone advise me how to do this?

Thanks for any help on this, it will really be appreciated. If there's any
good websites out there with tutorials that people have found useful, I'd
love to know about them.

You should try out the Cross-Functional Flowchart template in Visio.

Thanks Mark, I think that's what I've been using, but it only lets me add on
a maxumum of 5 horizontal bands (for each member of staff). I suppose I
could try and add more later.

Do you know how I can draw a process rectangle that covers more than one
person, with dotted lines to show who doesn't do this task? Like my diagram
below?

You could manually create such a shape using the drawing tools, but I'm not
aware of any existing shape with that kind of functionality.

Okay, thanks Mark, I'll make do with that. I don't mind some work, as long
as I know that there's not a quicker way to be doing things.
