BCM: Slow, Slower... Stall Syncronizing? What???

T

I finally have BCM set up and running and I really like the potiential and
implications for my business, However, there is a problem that, if not fixed,
will eliminate useage of many of the features. While cleaning up items in my
Tasks folder I was simply changing the reminder dates. I was able to change
maybe three before the computer would slow way down and I watched the screen
and tapped my fingers before it returned control to me. I assume that Outlook
is caching and then syncronizing. Not at all effecient.

Just now, I forwarded a simple email with a small imbedded picture to 15
receipients. It took over 15 minutes for the computer to return control to me.

I am not running a 286 here. My computer has 2GH and 1G memory. I can't work
this way. 15 minutes to forward a simple message without even an attachment?

So who can tell me what is going on and what I might be able to do about it
short of not using Outlook with BCM anymore?

Thanks, Jim

I assume you have Outlook 2007 with BCM.

If you just installed and configured BCM with an Outlook profile that has a
lot of e-mail, it could take a while for E-mail Auto-Link to finish indexing
your content. If you would like to temporarily disable auto-linking, from
the main Outlook window, select "Business Contact Manager | Manage E-mail
Auto-linking...", click on the "Folders" tab and click the "Clear All"
button, then click "OK".

Clinton, I appreciate your answer. However at this point I have managed to
screw things up and need to go a different direction. Hopefully you can help
me. I uninstalled BCM and SQL server and OA07 because I believed that there
was some ghosts from an earlier configuration. I have upgraded from Office 03
and OA06. At any rate I can not get either BCM or OA07 to reinstall. Neither
can develop a database. I have tried to reinstall SQL server express
independantly but I get a message that the setup file sqlwriter.msi can not
be found and to reinstall the setup package. I have searched MS web site
looking for a way to get the file and or reinstall SQL writer but to no
avail. Do you have any idea how I can get these programs back online? Thanks,
Jim

First, go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall BCM and OA 2007. Next,
uninstall the following:
- Microsoft Office Small Business Connectivity Components
- Microsoft SQL Server Native Client
- Microsoft SQL Server Setup Support Files (English)
- Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer

Now install BCM and OA from the original disks or download files.

Clinton, bingo! You're da man! It all appears to be back an operating.
Unfortunatly so is the shutting down and sending error reports. There is
something seriously wrong with this new interface. I simply can't get much
done for waiting on it to send error reports to MS. So, I am back to the
original post. What is making this thing run so terribly slow?

Yes, the interrelated products here are Outlook 07 With BCM, OA07 and
desktop search. I would think that it would not take days to index things but
maybe I am wrong. Even so, why would it keep shutting down? My installation
as of today, fresh Windows XP repair job, new install of Office07 and OA07.
Again, I would like to use the features but if I have to wait around after
every entry for this to index and grind away I will not be able to be
productive at all. Jim

Take a look at "Start | Control Panel | Indexing Options". Does it show that indexing is complete?

Next, try disabling E-mail Auto-linking from the main Outlook window by selecting "Business Contact Manager | Manage E-mail
Auto-linking...". Select the "Folders" tab and click the "Clear All" button, then click "OK".

If you're still having problems, right-click on the Windows taskbar at the bottom of the screen and select "Task Manager". Select
the "Processes" tab and click on the "CPU" column heading to sort by CPU usage. Do you see an application that is using a lot of
CPU? Also sort by "Image Name" and look for OUTLOOK.EXE and sqlserver.exe. Check CPU usage and memory usage as well. If you have
a lot of Business Contact data, you could be running low on memory. Let me know what you find.

Clinton, Thanks for all the information, I have retained it for future use.
Actually the application shut down after about three keystrokes this morning,
rebooted and worked very well all day today and I worked in it almost the
entire day. On an average day I will do more swappng than today so we will
see. At any rate it seems to have settled down, possibly having finished
indexing or something as you suggest. I think I will let it run without
interuption for a while unless it acts up again. Let's see if it continues to
perform. I really like the new features and the linking possibillities. Other
than for a few things that have been left out it is a good solution that I
have been looking for. Thanks again for your diligent assistance. Jim
