Before we upgrade

Stephanie

I've been asked to evaluate MS Project 2007 and Project Server 2007;
currently we have both in version 2003 and we've created many reports, macros
etc, so here are my questions:
1) Will the upgrade damage any of the existing reports and macros?
2) Will users who are still using MS Project 2003 be able to upload their
projects to Project Server 2007?
3) If we upgrade our Project Server 2003 to Project Server 2007 and do not
like it, can we revert back to 2003?
Thanks!

Hi Stephanie,

Here are the answers to your questions:
1) Will the upgrade damage any of the existing reports and macros?
Yes that is possible. reports that you created from Project Server 03 will
not work anymore, due to a new database structure, but 07 has one dedicated
reporting Database which will make your reporting life easy.

Macros may still work, but could potentially break depending on what the
Macro has done.

2) Will users who are still using MS Project 2003 be able to upload their
projects to Project Server 2007?
No they wont. 03 can not use 07 and vica versa. ( but the extra
functionality that Project 07 offers will make your PM's most happy like
multilevel undo, change highlight)

3) If we upgrade our Project Server 2003 to Project Server 2007 and do not
like it, can we revert back to 2003?
If you ask if you can refert back from 07 to 03 the answer is no, but
nothing stops you leaving 03 on an extra instance. However, I doubt that you
will want to refer back. Before you make this call to upgrade, you may want
to compare the benefit to the effort and base your decission on the analysis.

I hope this answers all of your questions. Please let me know if you have
any more

Do you have an upgrade checklist of sorts, that can help guide us through
these types of issues?

Thanks!
