Being found by a Search Engine

M

Mike

Search engine results show each found site under its own short heading. How
is this heading generated? Apart from including keywords in the FrontPage
meta tags is there a way to improve the chance of being picked up by a
Search Engine search?

Many thanks.

From the domain name and then from the Title in the pages between the <title></title> tags.
As for meta tags, make sure they match the actual text seen on the page.
However, most search engines ignore them and actually spider the actual page content.
Having a bunch of unrelated words in the meta tags is actually counter productive.

Search engines such as Google, rank sites according to a number a
criteria, one of them being the number of external links. So the more
sites that link to yours, the better the chance of being googled well.

I use a program called WebPositionGold by MarketMySite.com. I discovered it
from a local company that was charging for search engine placement. About 2
years ago they guaranteed 1st page placement in 13 weeks on the search
engines. I don't know if they still make that claim now since the market is
constantly changing. I can say the progam has worked for me in the past and
has educated me on different algorythms that are needed for the search
engines. For example, how relevant is the body of text related to your
subject - do you have too many words or too little words that contain the
body of your website that you are trying to promote, the title needs between
3 to 5 words, there are a limited number of keywords that are allowed before
you are penalized, in the description tag how relevant is your keyword or
how close is it to the beginning. There are so many factors in the
algorythm that I cannot explain. But, the program has a page critic that
tells you what you need to change in your coding to be more relevant to the
search engines. It submits the pages for you to each search engine, keeping
in mind you only allowed to promote 3 pages per day before getting
peanlized. It keeps a record for you showing your page placement throughout
the process and tells you when you need to submit again. And after reading
their book, you'll learn to design certain pages targeting certain keywords.
I've designed targeting keyword pages recently and haven't noticed a big
change, but slowly and surely it's happening. I don't know if the search
engines aren't recognizing subfolders or if I have to submit each page
individually. But, anyways I could go on and on about the program. I can
say it has worked for me in the past, and I am utilizing it today until I
find something else that does a better job. I hope with enough attention to
my website this year, I can come back and tell you I am number 1 on every
keyword I have targeted.

Mike,

What's your website and I will pull a page critic on your main page and tell
you what suggestions you may have according to my WebPositionGold program.
I will need to know the keywords you are targeting for. I will also be able
to tell you what search engines you are currently indexed on and what
ranking you currently stand in the top 50.
