best connection method to exchange

Which is better to configure over a WAN for Outlook 2001 (mac) to Exchange:
a) default setup
b) use offline folders

When using default - does the connection to Exchange stay continously
connected? I would assume that creates a lot of network traffic if there are
many clients.

When using offline folders - does Outlook only connect on a certain time
frame then synch the offline folders? Thus saving network bandwidth?

I can't find these answers in any documentation or support articles I've
found so far...thanks in advance.

If you have a reliable network connection then I would suggest the
default setup.

Network bandwidth should be minimal. Yes, your Mac will check the server
more frequently for new messages but this is acceptable compared to
actually receiving a new mail message.

"Offline folders" is intended for travelers with portable machines who
need to read and respond to email while not connected to the company
network.

Hope this helps! bill
