Best practice for Project Level Custom information

We want to associate a custom piece of information with each project plan
that is a unique identifier within our company. Is it best to add this
information as a custom property in each project plan in Project Professional
under Project properties or to create a project level custom field in Project
Server?

We want to be able to pull this field into a report also.

Create an Enterprise wide custom field (defined in PWA -> Server
Settings) and use that. Then all projects will store this information
in the same place and it will be available in the Project Server
reporting database.

We created something similar for a client, and used a server side
event handler to assign an ever-increasing number whenever a project
was checked in with nothing in this field.

James - thank you - we will go with that option
