Best practices for database server planning

I need to know what the best practices for database server planning are to
map out business requirements. Would taking the size of the current project
repository size be a good place to start?

As well, how should I plan for the Project Web Access functions of capturing
risks, issues and project status? Are there rules of thumb for that data
sizing?

Tim - Microsoft used to post a deployment kit that included
requirements documents, project plans and a very handy configuration
workbook which consisted of a very large tabbed Excel worksheet. It
was around during PS 2002 and I used it to plan for a PS 2003 upgrade,
but I haven't seen it on Microsoft's site. You might check MSDN to see
if you can find. I *may* have a copy of the files at home, so if you
really need it, let me know and I will look.

I would say, based on my experience, that if you get the documentation
that Microsoft offers, that Jerry linked to, and get a couple of the
books by Gary Chefetz and Dale Howard, and use the Excel workbook, you
should be in good shape.

Thanks for the quick response! That excel workbook would be helpful since I'm
not finding it easily on MSDN.

Tim -

I cannot locate the old files. I have a version of it that is
basicially so customized by me as to be propriertary, but I can remove
some content and send it. I would need an email address. It's about
280k zipped and 5MB unzipped.

Regards,
Mark
