best way to insert entries into a toc

Greetings.

I have a set of word documents, one being a toc.
It references many other documents in the same directory.
When I update the fields, it can only find three out of about twelve files, the others getting an "error! Bookmark not
defined".

I checked and used cut an paste to make sure the path and file names are correct, but I can't get the TOC field to
generate the page numbers for those other files.

1 - is there any way besides manually typing, to indicate the files involved in generating a TOC?
2 - can someone suggest a way to figure out what the problem is?

Thanks
Jeff

OK.. I found the trick (I hope).. you need to insert soft page breaks between the TOC file path entries. (not entirely
obvious to the casual user!!)
