Best way to "print screen" a Search for files or folders?

O

Owl

I believe one can "print screen" a Search for files or folders using Paint.
I have tried to do this, but didn't succeed.

How is that done?

Is that the best (only?) way to do so? If not, what is the best way, please?

Also, what key is used with the Print Screen key, please?

Thank you in anticipation.

You use the Print Screen key and then paste it into Paint.

Not the only way. "Best" way is a matter of opinion. I prefer using SnagIt.

O

Owl

Thank you for your reply. As I said, I tried that but need to be told how to
do it.

1. How do you select in a Search for Files and Folders?
2. What key is used with the Print Screen key?

When I go into Paint, I don't have the option to paste.

What is SnagIt? Presumably it is a program or a tool. Is it free? Where
can I find it?

Thanks in anticipation.

To add to my previous two messages, in Paint it comes up with Paste From. (I
have realised/remembered that the key that goes with the Print Screen key is
Ctrl)

JoAnn uses Snagit, Has good features but costs.

I use Wisdom Soft's Screen Hunter Free version
http://www.wisdom-soft.com/sh/index.htm. It is free and allows capture from
the active window, the entire screen or a user defined area of the screen to
either the clipboard or to a user definable file. Installation and
configuration is relatively painless and it always has produced good results
for me.

On my computer, hitting the Print Screen key doesn't capture anything.
However, as I mentioned above, hitting Ctrl-Print Screen does. However, when

Have you tried pasting the results into a Word document?
Paste From isn't the option you want.

Depending on what the information is that you are trying to search for, you
could try Excel's add-n ASAP Utilities. That will let you make a spreadsheet
with file/path names, dates, sizes, whatever.

I wonder if you aren't haveing some sort of keyboard driver issue.

JoAnn, I think you have hit the nail on the head.

I can do all of what I was trying at work on my work computer with no
problem at all.

It seems to me that somehow my Print Screen key, and all its combination
keys, aren't working. I think I must have assigned it to something. I did
try to assign it to one of the screen capture programs, but it said it
couldn't be done (but I think after I had used it successfully several times)

I tried it my Print Screen key:

1) on its own
2) with Ctrl (which was working - I think with one of the 2 Screen Capture
programs I downloaded last night, both of which I have since uninstalled)
3) with Alt, and
4) with Shift.

None of them are working.

How can I
1) find out what it has been assigned to, and
2) change it back to what it is supposed to be.

For the record, I don't have a numeric pad on my laptop. I have to convert
other keys to being a numeric pad with Fn-Numlock and then turn it off again
with Fn-Numlock so that I can use those keys for what they are supposed to be
used for.

Print Screen work (because I don't have a Numeric Pad). Although you
didn't
come up with that exactly, you got me thinking while I was replying to
you -
and HEY PRESTO! It all WORKS!

JoAnn, I think you have hit the nail on the head.

I can do all of what I was trying at work on my work computer with no
problem at all.

It seems to me that somehow my Print Screen key, and all its
combination
keys, aren't working. I think I must have assigned it to something. I
did
try to assign it to one of the screen capture programs, but it said it
couldn't be done (but I think after I had used it successfully several
times)

I tried it my Print Screen key:

1) on its own
2) with Ctrl (which was working - I think with one of the 2 Screen
Capture
programs I downloaded last night, both of which I have since
uninstalled)
3) with Alt, and
4) with Shift.

None of them are working.

How can I
1) find out what it has been assigned to, and
2) change it back to what it is supposed to be.

For the record, I don't have a numeric pad on my laptop. I have to
convert
other keys to being a numeric pad with Fn-Numlock and then turn it off
again
with Fn-Numlock so that I can use those keys for what they are supposed
to
be
used for.

:

Have you tried pasting the results into a Word document?
Paste From isn't the option you want.

Depending on what the information is that you are trying to search
for,
you
could try Excel's add-n ASAP Utilities. That will let you make a
spreadsheet
with file/path names, dates, sizes, whatever.

I wonder if you aren't haveing some sort of keyboard driver issue.

On my computer, hitting the Print Screen key doesn't capture
anything.
However, as I mentioned above, hitting Ctrl-Print Screen does.
However,
when
I go into Paint, I don't get the option to Paste - only Paste From
and
I
don't know how to make that work.

What I am trying to do is to capture, copy and print a screen of
files,
the
folders they are in, the size they are and the date they were
created
that
I
generate from doing a search of files and folders.

:

You hit the Print Screen key on your keyboard.

Let's back up a step or three: What is it that you're trying to do?

Thank you for your reply. As I said, I tried that but need to be
told
how
to
do it.

1. How do you select in a Search for Files and Folders?
2. What key is used with the Print Screen key?

When I go into Paint, I don't have the option to paste.

What is SnagIt? Presumably it is a program or a tool. Is it
free?
Where
can I find it?

Thanks in anticipation.

:

You use the Print Screen key and then paste it into Paint.

Not the only way. "Best" way is a matter of opinion. I prefer
using
SnagIt.

I believe one can "print screen" a Search for files or folders
using
Paint.
I have tried to do this, but didn't succeed.

How is that done?

Is that the best (only?) way to do so? If not, what is the
best
way,
please?

Also, what key is used with the Print Screen key, please?

Thank you in anticipation.

Look at : KeyTweak free from http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/
Allows you to change function of keys - I use it to remove "Shift
Lock" by making it "Shift" and
to adding a "Tab" to replace "Num Lock" to make one handed numerical
entries.

It will show what <Print Screen> is mapped to and let you change it to
anything you want.

Thank you ebloch. However, as you will see, I have sorted the problem now.
I need to press Fn-Print Screen.
