Beta 2 Technical Refresh Causing Download Problems

L

lbp1126

After downloading the technical refresh I am having problems in Internet
Explorer (both 6.0 and 7.0 rc1). When I try to read Yahoo Mail I get a blank
screen. Same for a number of other web pages. My McAfee Anti virus program
needs updating. When I click on the link at their website to download updated
software, the link won't respond. When I try to click on System Restore, the
program won't run - I just get a blank screen. Anyone with any ideas
regarding what is going on and how to fix it?

I haven't seen that problem with it Larry but I'd sure read the notes and
KBs and this link before you start contemplating getting it. Also as MSFT
recommends, back up your Office apps thoroughly. Many many people are
having problems opening them.

I'd read the release notes, the MSKBs on Office 2007 and I'd make sure to
read this link below. I'd also warn you you're going to need 2GB free space
for the Tech Refresh and if you don't read Release Notes or KBs it stupidly
doesn't tell you that. You'll just get a not enough space if you don't have
2GB--the patch is 500MB--you get that space back when you install and btw it
isn't uninstallble.

Have you backed up all your Office apps first?

READ BEFORE INSTALLING OFFICE 2007 B2TR

From Patrick Schmid on the Office General group:

The B2TR patch has some nasty surprises for users in store. The most
important one being that Word 2007 Beta 2 files saved in the new file
formats (extensions docx, docm, etc) might not open at all once B2TR has
been installed.
Excel files in the file formats (extensions xlsx, xlsm, etc) saved in B2
should open in B2TR. PowerPoint files saved in B2 in the new file
formats (extensions pptx, pptm, etc) seem to at least open, but seem to
have issues with font size, text placement, and other minor issues.
Before installing B2TR therefore, you should save all your files in the
97-2003 file formats. That means, save all your docx files as doc
(Word), all your xslx files as xls (Excel) and all your pptx files as
ppt (PowerPoint).
There are a host of other issues you might encounter. I am keeping a
running list that I will update constantly over the next few days at
http://pschmid.net/blog/2006/09/14/43. I highly suggest to read it
before installing B2TR.

Also someone posted on the Get Vista RC1 site that the Tech Beta 2 Refresh
is needed to run Offie 07 on RC1. That's just patently false.

It is only true if the Vista RC-1 installation is an upgrade installation -
it does not apply to a clean installation.
