Beta2 wont run on Vista Feb CTP

B

Bob C.

I've installed the beta on Vista Feb CTP. None of the apps will start.
Word and Outlook show in the processes, but crash after a few moments.

This may be related to:
) Security? I am getting security prompts (ie Allow?) for many tasks, such
as opening the network list, control panel, etc...
) An incompatable AC97 audio driver? The system displays a warning that the
driver is not compatable with vista with an [Ok]

Any ideas?

Hi Bob,

For the 2007 Office system Beta 2 to run on Windows Vista, Vista needs to be at the 'official' 'Vista Beta2' build, 5384.

Some of the earlier builds may have been showing a 'beta 2' desktop branding, unfortunately. The February Customer Technnology
Preview build (CTP) isn't a new enough build.

Dear Bob:

Then how do I obtain this 'official' 5384 build of Windows Vista? Build 5308
(Windows Vista CTP February 2006 DVD) was what came with Technet. Windows
Update says there is nothing available.

I want evaluate both products for our IT department, and having Office 2007
Beta crash at startup does not inspire confidence, or make a viable case for
purchase, to our already skittish CFO.

I'm downloading from MSDN, but the page doesn't give the build number, just
the date of 5/23.

I managed to obtain Build 5384.4 of Windows Vista, but the provided key won't
authenticate. Windows reports it is already in use.

How did you obtain the 5384 version being on TechNet? I am still waiting for
it to be available to the TechNet users.
