Processor: Power PC

Hello, longtime Office 2004 user and suddenly word docs began opening with a macro-error message. Could not proceed with opening docs, printing etc.

I de-installed Office then reinstalled from an old installer disk-image i had saved - could not find my original installer CDs.

With the new app installed, upon trying to open existing Word docs, garbled text is appearing, including the phrase "end of document" in parentheses. When creating NEW docs, I likewise get this at the end of a sample line of text I type in: >>Âñå, ÏÈÇÄÅÖ ! (end of document) <<

Obviously something's deeply wrong here. I presumed reinstalling Office would resolve it
but not the case... running 10.3.9, Word V.11.0.
I haven't EVEN gone in to check the other apps
like Entourage/Excel but expect similar glitches.

Any ideas of how I can clear this up (and, at least hopefully salvage original Word docs)?

Have run disk utility/repair permissions- that didn't help. Greatly appreciate any advice!

Thanks

Mike

When you reinstalled you reverted to the version saved in the disk image and
you don't mentioned having applied any of the Office 2004 *updates* since
reinstalling. You indicate your version info as "11.0" but I'm certain that
your previous working version must have been updated to a higher level. You
may be able to simply apply the latest 11.5.5 updater in order to get the
programs running again - it's a combo that includes all prior updates.
Repair disk permissions afterward.

You'll get this error in Entourage until you update.

"This Identity Cannot Be Opened With This Version of Entourage"
This message usually means, for example, any Identity saved with a 12.1.0 or
later version will not open in 12.0.0 or 12.0.1. Since there was a database
format change in 12.1.0 (SP1), Entourage 12.0.0 or 12.0.1 cannot open a
database saved in the later version.

Entourage 2004 also had a database upgrade from the original release. Once
you upgrade, the Identity will open.

hi folks, that is true, i did not apply the updates - i will do it and see what happens- i meant to mention, that i also am getting the following message when opening new .docs:
"An unexpected error occurred trying to load the MS Framework Library."

Also, for every doc that i try to print, it is adding this ""end of document" message along with garbled text - after the original text of the doc.

Will do the updates but my concern is that these are essentially the identical errors that were appearing prior removing Office and reinstalling.
Was I supposed to perhaps clear out something else in "prefs" or wherever - in addition to "remove office" ??

Thanks again,

Mike

Well, i did the update to current version...repaired permissions and...
got the same issue that i was having
prior to the reinstall. When I choose
Print for ANY Word doc, the following is
automatically added to the body of the
text (at the end):

"Âñå, ÏÈÇÄÅÖ ! (end of document) "

I cannot get anything to print without
getting that added in -

Now that I think about it, something
may have gotten tweaked when this whole
problem was discovered (prior to reinstalling).

The initial problem that prompted the reinstall was that getting "runtime" errors with a template
and when i clicked on "debug" i think i may have deleted a line of code or whatever - in a script that appeared. Subsequently Word would not open/print ANYthing.

Is there maybe something more I need to do to
"clear out" any traces of the "old" Word that
are still in the OS before removing and reinstalling the app??

Thanks again!

Mike
