Billable resources and rates in a client solutions setting

I work for a VAR and we are working on implementation of Project Server. The
organization would like to use Project Server to manage engagements.

Although I understand the standard rate and overtime rates just fine, I am
having an issue with the following scenario:

Same resource
2 different engagements
2 different rates for the resource on the engagements
Both engagements are running concurrent

I can edit the resource and update the standard rate, which changes the rate
across the enterprise. However, I cannot change the rate on the resource
sheet just for that individual project (error message comes up stating that
the rate can be changed for modeling purposes only and will be overwritten
the next time it is opened).

Please advise as to a solution for this occurrence.

To resolve your problem, you need to user alternate Cost rates for the
resources in your Enterprise Resource Pool. Refer to the following FAQ:

Just to add to Dales great response, you are only able to have 5 differnt
cost rate tables. If you have more then 5 rates for the same resource at the
same time, you will not be able to do that
