Bizarre Error with Custom Fields defined in PWA

P

PatLac

Hi,

Lately we made the following test:

1- Created a custom field (text), created in PWA, Enterprise Custom Fields;
2- Modification of the table and we replaced it in the Global Enterprise;
3- We then modified the view “My Assigment†so that the new custom field
text is visible in this view.

Test 1: In Project Pro: Insert a value in the new custom field; save and
publish; refresh PWA; close and reopen = the transfer is not done (the text
registered in the field does not appear).

Test 2: In the PWA: Insert a description in the custom field; submit
selected; save all; open the test project with Project = a pop-up window
appears and shows the description to the PM but the text does not appear in
the column.

Result: A transfer is done starting from PWA towards Project to warn the PM
of the change but the text still does not appear in the column. The reverse,
from Project towards PWA, does not function at all.

It looks like the data in the custom field is not shared between Project and
PWA.

Any hint ???

Hi PatLac,

Can you please give us a little more information.
I assume that you are running version 2003?
Are you sure that you used an enterprise custom field and not just a custom
field? I would check that.
If so, when you include the new custom field in the column of "my
assignment" does the heading show the name that you gave the custom field or
does it say Enterprise Custom field x?

I am sure we will get to the bottom of the problem :)
Thanks

Sorry, I should have specified the Project version..

I am using Project 2007.

I am sure I am using an Enterprise Custom field since that is the "option" I
choose when I am in PWA, Server Settings, Enterprise Custom Fields.

When I include the new custom field in the view "My Assignement", I see the
name I gave to the custom field. But if I add that same column in a Project
Pro view, i see the name of the field followed by (Enterprise). So I assume
that my field is defined correctly.

Also, If I select my project from the Project Center, I can see the values
of my custom fields ONLY for the text ones. I have one field defined as a
number (values are from a lookup) and the values of thet field never gets
displayed

Do you think that this problem is the same as the one defined in the thread
: "Disappearing values in custom fields" ?

Hi PatLac,

I am not certain why you have this issue. I know that if you use a Proposal
and Activity instead of a Project that the traffic light doesnt show up.

I would assume that all values display just fine in MS Project Professional.
The issue you are having seem to be in PWA.

I have never come accross the issue that only textual information is
displayed and not numbers. Are all number fields based on a lookup table?
Can you see if any any lookup table value can be displayed in the Project
Center
Also can you check if you have any errors in either the queue or the event
log on your application server.
Thanks

Thanks Crook,

Unfortunatly, the problem I have is not the same as the ones address in the
bug reports. I already tried deleting the cache manually and that did not
work.

Hello Marc,

We still have the problem with the number custom fields. It is never
displayed in the Project view of the Project center (in PWA). The other
fields are ok. 2 out of 3 custom fields are based on a lookup table. It is
very strange...

Also, here is the explanation why my 3 custom fields never get displayed in
the view "My Assignments". The values entered for my fields are entered at
the "task" level in Project Pro, not at the "assignment" level. I do not know
if I am being clear?? If I want to see the values of my fields in the view
"My Assignments", I have to display the view "Task Usage" in Project Pro,
then enter the values of my fields for every ressource assigned to the tasks..

This is where I am right now...
