Black text print

R

Russ

I have just upgraded my PowerMacG5 to Leopard and find that Word and Excel will not print documents or spreadsheets using the black ink cartridge on my Canon MP160. Instead they use the color cartridge and text prints in gray instead of black. TextEdit, Pages, etc. do print correctly. Only the Office products seem affected. I am using the latest versions of Office and Canon printer driver. I have also deleted my previous print preferences, but that didn't help.

Does anyone have any suggestions ? Thanks for any assistance.

Hi Russ -

Can't be certain but one thing to check: Make sure that the text color is
set to Automatic and not actually designated as Black. Any other details
about the formatting effects and the type of content may be useful. Also,
verify all the settings in your print dialog box that deal with color.
Include that info if you post back - and it would be quite helpful to have
some idea which specific version of Office you're using... Do you mean the
latest release - 2008 - or the latest updates to a prior version?

Hi Bob & Russ :)

I'm sorry I didn't see this posting sooner. This had been reported by a user
in another newsgroup and we have confirmed that it is indeed true that black
text is being printed using colours as well as black. Unfortunately, there
is no workaround for this issue at the moment.

That being said, the combined-colours-black text should still print out to
look black as it should be using both the black and colour cartridge.

I hope Russ will post back with the info Bob requested to see if I can't
further assist with this issue.

Thanks,
-June

Hi June:

You obviously don't pay $58.95 each for your colour cartridges like some of
us do :)

We need a quick patch for this one :)

Cheers

Hi June -

Thanks for jumping in... But John is correct - even though I don't pay that
much for color cartridges:) there is another issue here.

With many printers that use multi-color cartridges the composite black
*isn't* black. It can be anywhere from a grayish "near black" to a murky
brown if the printer is combining CMYK inks to attain the color rather than
actually using the Black cartridge. The latter is quite ugly.
