Blacked Out Sections in Email

When I type an email that is at least a page long,
sections of the email are blacked out and are unreadable.
If the view is changed to print, it is readable. I have
copied myself on some messages and I can read it when
received but not in the web layout when I'm sending.
Could this possibly be a virus? I've scanned with Norton.
