blank box with little "x"

When sending e:mail containing images or photos all my recipients see when
received is a blank box containing a little "x" where the images should be.
This happens more times than not. Friends and Family are tired of not being
able to view my e:mails. I am using Outlook Express as my e:mail client.
Any suggestions out there on how to fix?
