(blank) displayed in pivot table

My pivot table displays "(blank)" when the data cell is empty. I want the cell to be empty in the pivot table...not display "(blank)". I've tried the table options settings but the pivot table function does not consider the cell to be either an error or empty...it just displays "(blank)" and it clutters up the pivot table. I've tried formating the data table as numbers and text, as well as the pivot table...it still displays "(blank)". I've tried every setting I could find, but I must be missing something. Any ideas?

You could also use an apostrophe (') in a cell by itself.

I like to use a formula:

=""

It's easier to see than a space character or apostrophe and it reminds me I did
something special to that cell.

I use conditional formatting... XX is equal to "(blank)" then make th
font white. That way, the user doesn't have to know to put a space o
' in it
