you are correct about my structure now
i tried to breakup one master file by deleting all projects but one then
save as. the file size stayed the same. i then had to use the FAQ43 fix and
it cut the file to 1.5MB. isnt that still big for a 40 task file? i think if
i rebuild the project again i'll sill get the 10MB back
Hadi,
Yes I agree that 1.5M is still large for what you say is a 40 task file.
It's not clear to me just how many files you now have but it sounds like
you should have around 20. I would take each of those files and insert
them into a static master (i.e. a real master). For example, take file
#1 and use Insert/Project to insert that individual file into a static
master (i.e. "link to project" unckecked). Do the same with file #2, #3,
etc. What you will end up with is 20 static masters. Then modify the
hierarchy structure of each of the new static masters to eliminate the
top level summary line that was created. At that point you will have 20
de-bloated files that can then be inserted into a new master. Unless
something else is really screwed up (and it might be), the file will not
expand back to 10M.
