Block baselines

Hello everyone.

I don't know if this could be done, but could I ask for my project
administrators to necessarly save a baseline of their projects when
publishing and block it so it couldn't be overwritten once the project is
published and therefore could they be forced into using baseline1, 2, 3...
and so on so I can have always the original baseline?

Thanks!

This is not possible. If a PM can baseline a project initially, he/she can
rebaseline a project as well. Therefore, you need to make this a training
and performance issue. Teach them to baseline only once and then hold them
accountable for this behavior. Beyond this, if there is a need for
rebaselining a project, such as after a major change control procedure, then
you also need to develop your company's process for doing so and teach your
PM's how to handle this situation. Hope this helps.

Rene,

This can be done, but it would require customization in order to copy
the original baseline values and protect them from change. In Project
Server, we recommend that users baseline 0 and baseline 1 for the
initial baseline. Baseline 1 becomes a record of baseline 0. If
there is an approved change, then you use baseline 0 and baseline 2.
Another changed, baseline 0 and 3. Baseline 1 is a record of the
original baseline, and baseline 2 is a record of the approved change.
Baseline 0 drives the indicators.

Hope this helps,

In MSPS 2007 you have the ability to prevent a group of users from saving
"Protected Baseline" - Baseline 0-5 which is a category permission and can
therefore be applied on a subset of projects. You can also prevent groups
from saving "Unprotected Baselines" - Baseline 6 - 10 which is a global
permission and therefore can only be applied to all or none of the projects.
This could be incorporated into your process that only administrator role
can save protected baseline and they do this during the initial publish and
your PMs can only use baseline 6-10 for their own use.
