bolding the data and doing the mail merge

I have a data spreadsheet with 26 separate comments (26 columns). Some of
these comments, I bolded specific words. When I do my mail merge, those
bolded words from the data spreadsheet do not transfer into the mail merge as
bolded, they come in as UNbolded. What am I doing wrong?

thank you Gord. Here's how my mail merge is set up....... my letter looks
like this:

Date

Dear student,
Below are the results of your financial aid.

(comment paragraphs come into the picture here)


and that's it.there is nothing more to the letter than what you see here. I
then bring in the # comment that coincides with their particular situation.
There are 26 possible answers. One student will receive comments 1,15,19, 20;
another student gets comments 3, 9, 24; another student gets comments 20, 22;
and so on. No 2 letters are ever the same.

in my excel merge set up, i have one comment in each cell (26 cells). in
some comments, I want certain words to stand out to the student (reason for
bolding those words). When I do my merge, the bolded words from comments, and
lets say comments 1, 10, 20 do not come over as bold.

Is there a chance it might work and how can I make it work?

What you want done will all be done through Word with Excel only serving as the
source of raw data.

The formatting you have in Excel does not carry over.

The fields to import to your for letters and the formatting will be done in
Word.

Not something I do on a regular basis. That's why I posted the sites for help.

When I do a mailmerge for a form letter or labels/envelopes, I just mumble my
way through then propmtly forget how I achieved my final product.
