Hi

I am using bookmarks in templates to be able to replace text returned from
Axapta Database
and there are also several drop-down lists in the document .

The problem is that in office 2003, the drop-down lists does not work if you
disable the document protection, but if you enable it the bookmarks does not
get filled because axapta does not have permission to fill it.
We have tried to protect the document in the relevant sections only, but
this does not seem to work.
It works perfectly in Word 2000.

I'm guessing that this tool you're using is not using the proper parts of the
object model to fill data into the text form fields. Or it was not designed
with this in mind. You might want to discuss this with Axapta, as any changes
made to how their code works is something they'll need to do.

It's also not possible to remark on the different behavior between the two Word
versions without knowing the code involved. But it sounds like a "logic
loophole" was closed after Word 2000. It shouldn't be possible to write to a
bookmark range in a protected section of the document.

What you might try is to place section breaks either side of the dropdown. Then
choose to protect only that section where the dropdown is located. It should be
possible to write to bookmark ranges in unprotected sections.
