Books to choose from....

Hi over there,
My team need to do some programming in VBA/MSVisio. There are a lot of books
about MSVisio but not all of them are for "real" ;) programmers (as far as I
can see :) )

We have norrowed down to these books.

1) Developing Microsoft Visio Solutions
2) Professional Development with Visio 2000

I would appreciate everybody's opinion/recommandation/suggestion what book
to choose from the above list or from any book we probably never heard of.

Thanks in Advance.

Other than Graham's books http://www.diagramantics.com/diagenvs/visio/ that
is about it.

The DVS book has been the standard documentation from Visio and then
Microsoft. It's current incarnation is as "Developing Microsoft Visio
Solutions" from MS Press. On older versions of Visio you may be able to find
an Acrobat version of the book on the CD called DVS.PDF. Things have
changed, but the basics are still the same.

Dave Edson's book has not been updated since Visio 2000, but is still a good
reference.

Graham's books are for the serious developers. He covers things in more
details.

You would not go wrong having a copy of each book in your teams library.

For other sources of information, there is:
1) these newsgroups,
2) a Yahoo newsgroup where Graham hides out
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Microsoft_Visio/,
3) Sample VBA code at www.mvps.org/visio/VBA.htm
4) the Tek-Tips Visio newgroup
http://www.tek-tips.com/threadminder.cfm?SPID=172

In order of activity, the newsgroups are the most active followed by
Tek-Tips and then Yahoo newsgroup

"Microsoft Visio Version 2003 Inside Out" is for the user, not the
developer. Graham's books, including the latest version "Visio 2003
Developer's Survival Pack" are based on the fact that the developer is
familiar with DVS, the current version being "Developing Microsoft Visio
Solutions" from MS Press.

When I first went to program in Visio, I bought everything I could find. The
only book I use is Graham's book. Buy it. Keep the others, they will help
you get started on some issues. Graham's book may take some leaps, but when
I was 3 months into my project, I stopped looking at the others. I can part
with all the books, except Grahams. I only wished he provided it as a PDF so
I don't have to lug my dog eared, dirty, half torn book through the airport
security. (Graham if you read this, really consider this, at least your
references at the end of book).

Personally, I would go for "Visio 2003 Developer's Survival Pack", other
books are too far from automation needs. Yesterday I was disappointed by
"Microsoft Visio Version 2003 Inside Out" - it's definitely not for
programmers.
