Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

Normally there are tabs at the bottom of the window showing the layout options as little icons. These have seemed to have disappeared.

Hi -

Go to Word> Preferences (or key Command+,) - View... The odds are there is
no check in the Status Bar checkbox. Restore the check & the View buttons
should reappear :)

Hi, Thanks for your reply. No the status bar checkbox is ticked, and I can actually see most of the status bar - it cuts off abruptly where the layout buttons should be.

OK - Same place in the Prefs, what about the box for Horizontal Scroll Bar?

Another possibility is if you're using Leopard's "Spaces" feature - Office
doesn't play nice with Spaces, so turn that off & see if the problem
persists when you launch Word.

If none of that manages to correct it you've come across something that
hasn't been reported before, so in order to effectively pursue the issue
further make sure Office is fully updated (12.1.1), OS X is up to date
(10.5.4) and that you've run repair disk permissions. Restart your Mac,
launch Word & post back with the results.
