Bought FrontPage Upgrade no support for installation need to ente.

Tim McKinzie

I purchased an FrontPage upgrade for my daughter who has the student version
of Microsoft Office 2003 at Office Max. I was told that she could install it
so long as she had some version of Microsoft Office on her computer. As I
said, she has the student version of Microsoft Office 2003. We were trying to
use your customer support to determine if the Office Max employee was
incorrect when he told us she only needed "some version of Microsoft Office
on the computer. From the error messages, it appears that she may have had to
have had an older version of Office to upgrade FrontPage. That does not seem
logical nor does it comport with the salesperson's representation at Office
Max, but my main complaint is that you have no easy way to determine the
answer to this simple question with your technical support.

You/she must have a prior version of FrontPage or prior version of Office that included FrontPage in
order to install the upgrade, see the box for upgrade requirements.

Read the box that the product came in! It answers your question.
The Office Max employee was paritially correct, as some of the older
versions of Office did have FrontPage included, specifically Microsoft
Office 2000 Premium and it would qualify. However, you should have read the
box!

To upgrade, you need a prior version of FrontPage. This can be a stand-alone
package or a version of Office that included FrontPage.

If you need an old version of FrontPage to make your upgrade work, you can
usually get one very cheaply on eBay. Just be sure to buy a version that the
upgrade box or message says will work.

if the offcie max employee gave misleading or incorrect info
take it back for a full refund and purchase the correct
version - or be irate and perhaps get a full version for no
extra. If some version of office (yours) did not do as
recommended or advised they will supply a copy of FP that
will install as they advised - won't they ?

Or he could have read the paragraph on the side of the box and seen what it
said.

None of the academic versions of office products are eligible for Upgrades (because they are already steeply discounted)
For example see

According to the link Stefan provided, it says Upgrade Price "Not Available"

Tom

in message Does that mean that my college kid's Office 2003, I just bought him, will
not be upgrade-able should there be an upgrade?

S

Stefan B Rusynko

Correct
That academic full version is usually priced almost at the upgrade price so there is usually No upgrade available

Does that mean that my college kid's Office 2003, I just bought him, will not be upgrade-able should there be an upgrade?

correct - does not matter what is written on the side of the
box if you are told by the sales person that it is OK for
what you wish to do with it.

If you buy it without reading the box and without consulting
a salesperson you are on your own.

Of course getting the salesperon to acknowledge that you
asked and that their advice was wrong is another matter - be
prepared to bring a lot of attention to yourself and them,
be prepared to "discuss" the issue with the manager

"Rob Giordano (Crash Gordon®)"
It would fall to the advice given by the salesperson in this
case.
