Bounced Incoming Messages

I keep getting my incoming messages bounced back to sender with the reason
that my inbox is full, but it isn't full, I empty it every day. This happens
daily even when there are no messages in my inbox. How can I fix this problem?

What is your account type - POP/SMTP? Where do you empty your inbox - in
your Personal Folders file, or on the server side inbox?

Login to your POP/SMTP account via webmail to check your server side inbox.

The mailbox up on the *server* is full (all its disk quota has been
consumed). That is NOT the same as the Inbox folder (or .pst file) on
your local host.

My guess is that you are using POP and have deliberately overwrote the
default option for POP handling in the e-mail account that you defined
within Outlook so it "leaves messages on server". If that option is
enabled, the e-mail client will perform the RETR (retrieve) command to
yank new e-mails from your mailbox but it will not follow with the DELE
(delete) command to remove them from the mailbox on the server. You
decided to keep your e-mails around on the server but have neglected to
go there to manually clean out old messages. Since you configured the
e-mail client to not do the cleanup, that job is now your
responsibility.

Use the webmail interface to your e-mail account and remove old items
from the Inbox and other folders. Some e-mail providers do not count
items moved into the Spam/Junk and Trash/Deleted folders against your
account's disk quota but some do. So after deleting the old items from
Inbox and other folders, make sure to also delete them from the Trash or
Deleted folder, too.
