I consider myself relatively savvy with MS Word, but freely admit that my first step in the water with Publisher has been a frustrating disaster :-(

I think I have set up my Personal Information correctly. When I go to open a new flyer based on one of the built in template, it always comes up with Contact person: 555-555-5555 and the tear offs read 555-555-5555

The other anoyance is the task pane "tear off" options are all dimmed.

How do change this 555-555-5555 bit to always read my phone number anytime I start a new publication?

Thanks.

With the tear-offs you only have to change one of the entries, the rest will
follow. As for personal infomation, it does well in brochures and the like. You
can always use Insert, personal information and select an entry. Publisher will
create a new text box.

So are you saying that 555-555-5555 is hardcoded and there is no way to tell
the application to use a different default phone number? What about the
"tear-off" section on the task pane? Why is it dimmed? What good is it, if
it is always dimmed?

Greg,

From Help (Personal Information)

Add or change information within a personal information set

1.. On the Edit menu, click Personal Information.
2.. Under Select a personal information set, click the personal
information set you want to change.
3.. Under Personal information for this set, type your new text in the
appropriate boxes. You can also change text, associate a logo, or add a
color scheme to the personal information set.
To remove information from the personal information set, delete the text
in the appropriate boxes.

4.. Click Update.
When you click Update, all personal information components in your
publication are updated from the selected personal information set. If you
change the content of one or more personal information components directly
in your publication, and then click Update, you will overwrite the changes
you made to your publication.

David,

Making I am not making myselft clear. I have updated all of my personal
information.

I open the application. Using the task pane do the following:
New Publication>New from a design>Publications for print>Flyers>Sale and
select "Apartment for Rent Flyer"

It opens and teh Task Pane changes to "Flyer Options"
The Contact Person field on the flyer has 555-555-5555. All of the
tear-offs read 555-555-5555. The "Tear-offs" section on the task pane is
dimmed.

Is there a way to set up the application such that new publications will
have my phone number vice 555-555-5555? What could is the "Tear-off" pane
if it is dimmed?

Thanks.

Hi, Greg -

I experimented with my Publisher 2000. I'm getting the same result (or
non-result) you are with the apartment flyer.

Then I started playing with some of the other templates--some work, some
don't, some work part way (phone number will load in one placeholder on the
item - but not in one right next to it on the same item.)

Tried using "find and replace" as a work around -- that wouldn't even
replace one phone number - even though it "found" it.

(I should have known! I work with the public--when they start having
problems on the wordprocessing computers my first question is "Are you using
a template?" --- and I groan if they say "Yes.")
