Bring back Office Shortcut Bar

The WINDOWS instructions you provided for an alternative to the Office
Shortcut Bar, were hard for non-expert users to understand. Our computer
team advised us to setup short cut icons on our desktops, for each Office
program we want to use often. That was easier to do.

I did a printscreen of my new desktop and added it to a Word file with a
printscreen of the old desktop (with the Office Shortcut Bar).

I hope the next version of Office has the Office Shortcut Bar. Most of us
like it.

At first, I too was annoyed that Office 2003 does not include the OSB.

However, I am now glad that it's gone!

I was forced to analyze th ebuttons that I really needed, most of the
buttons in the OSB are not needed and it was just too easy to display
buttons that I rarely used.

My workaround was to plop what I needed into the system task bar.
I ended up with 24 icons, most of which I do use, plus whatever gets
displayed in the System Tray.

The reason that Office 2003 did not include the OSB had something to do with
the way Office 2003 changed the handling of windows.
I don't recall the details.

It was alleged that the overhead of including the code for an OSB would
outweigh the benefits.

So far, I don't miss the critter.

In addition, if you have seen early previews of Longhorn, you will know that the OS is including a "sidebar" that will have shortcuts to several parts of the OS, including a "shortcut" bar type display for programs, including Office. I presume this is the future of the OSB.

After a lot of head-scratching, Howard Kaikow asked:
