Broken Office Update Inventory Tol

R

MBSA 2.0.1 reports 9 Office XP updates missing. Windows Update reports 13
updates missing.

But Office Update and Office Inventory (latest patchdata.xml) both reported
all patches to date installed.

Here are some the updates MBSA sees are missing that Office Update and
Office Inventory think are actually installed.
MS04-027 | Missing | <snip> WordPerfect 5.x Converter (KB873379)
MS06-012 | Missing | Security Update for PowerPoint 2002 (KB905758)
MS06-012 | Missing | Security Update for Outlook 2002 (KB905649) |
MS06-017 | Missing | Security Update for SharePoint Team Services (KB911701
MS06-039 | Missing | Security Update for Office XP (KB914796
MS06-047 | Missing | Security Update for Office XP (KB920821)
MS06-054 | Missing | Security Update for Publisher 2002 (KB894541
MS06-058 | Missing | Security Update for PowerPoint 2002 (KB923092)
MS07-013 | Missing | Security Update for Office XP (KB920816)

I'm 99% sure I applied all those updates as either full file or
administrative updates. But they didn't install and only MBSA 2.0.1 and
Windows Update seem to notice. Reinstalling the above updates doesn't help.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the assist. Actually, upon further review, this is a shortcoming
and flaw in MBSA 2.0.1. Kudos to Office Update and the Microsoft Office
Updates Inventory Tool . Both reported no missing patches after the most
recent application from last patch Tuesday.

We bust tail to keep admin images up to date and pristine. Then along comes
the latest whiz bang tool to produce arbitrary false negatives. Glad to see
Windows keeps the "Deprecation of Fully Functional Software" team active.
Sure hope they write more new tools in WinFX 3 and provide output in XPS.
That will be a huge improvement over something or other and doubtless
generate much prettier reports.

Just as long as they keep their grubby mits off the Office tools, thank you.
