Broken POP3 Authentication

I use Outlook 2000 SP3 as my mail client on an XP OS. I
have been using it for years. As of this weekend I can
no longer connect to my 2 MSN accounts using the POP3
accounts that I have been using. Now it gets an error
about Unable to Authenticate using distributed password
authentication. I haven't changed anything on my system
except that I did do the latest security updates for XP
when they came out.

This reminds me of a previous such episode a few years
ago when my account got reset so that POP3 would no
longer work. I can't find any help at MSN anymore!!!
What do I have to do to get this fixed? How do you
contact these people??? It is not inutitively obvious to
me. I want my email (even if it is 99% spam).

This is extreamly annoying and stressful. I think that I
have about had it with computers. I've been an IT
professional for 35 years (or more) now and things just
aren't getting any better. :-(

Hi All,
Well, I just talked to the new tech support at QWEST for
MSN/QWEST DSL. They tell me that over the weekend MS
terminated support for POP3 access to MSN email accounts
from Outlook 2000. I just can't believe it!!! Can
anyone confirm that this is true and that it can't be
reversed? Why should I stay witn MSN and QWEST DSL if I
can't get my email the way I want/need it? There
certainly are more ecconomical alternatives. I just
don't get it.

Alternatives anyone?

Sincerely,
Arthur E. Davis
