Budget

Hi All

I have a couple of questions I am learning with EPM at the moment so
apologies if the question is a little hazy. I would like to find out if
theres a way, to put in a high level budget (i.e. before the plan is
resourced).

Is there any in depth reading material for Budget handling within the tool.

One approach would be to ask your Project Server administrator to create a
custom enterprise project Cost field called something like Initial Budget.
He/she should create this field in the Enterprise Global file and probably
make it a Required field. When your PM's create a new project, they will be
required to enter the Initial Budget value before they can save the project
in the Project Server database.

Beyond this, every resource in the Enterprise Resource Pool will need to
have a Standard Rate. We caution you against using actual salaries or pay
rates, since you cannot hide this information from your PM's in Project
Server. Therefore, we recommend you use a blended rate or average rate of
all resources across teams, departments, business units, or even across the
entire organization. With Standard Rates in place for resources, you can
determine the project cost after assigning resources to tasks.

Hope this helps.

Dale,

Thank you for the response and this is the approach we have taken, this way
we have the inital view of the budget whilst building the plans.

The resources have been set up with a standard rate.

Whilst I am doing this I am also working my way through the "Administering
an Enterprise PMO book" which is proving valuable.

Cheers
