Buffer Overrun detected

J

JustMe

Whenever I use the look up feature in MS Word 2007 I get the error:

Buffer Overrun detected!

Program: ...les/Microsoft Office 2007/Office12/Winword.exe.

The only option I get is to hit the OK button and that terminates the program.

What is causing this and how can it be fixed.

BTW: I am running Vista SP1 this this is Office 2007 Home and Student Edition.

Hi JustMe,

Have you tried running 'MS Office Diagnostics' from Word Options|Resources? Do you have Office 2007 SP1 installed?

J

JustMe

Thanks for your help. I do have Office SP1 installed and when I ran the
Diagnostics program it did state at the end that it corrected one error - but
did not specify what it corrected. However, when I ran Word again and used
the Look UP feature - the problem had been corrected.

Thanks!

Hi,

I found this answer i hope that helps

You need to rename this file with other name (mssp3es.dll):

Archivos programa\Archivos comunes\MicrosoftShared\Proof\mssp3es.dll

Program Files\Common Files\MicrosoftShared\Proof\ mssp3es.dll

I put the both path in Enaglish and also in Spanish.

I wouldn't recommend that, especially since the MS-endorsed solution worked.

I would have to agree. I have Office 2003 and under the Microsoft Word Help
section found the option to "detect and repair" SURPRISINGLY, this tool
really worked.

Well, I am running Vista Home Premium and Office 2003.

I tried "Detect and Repair". Sometimes it worked and sometimes not.

Since I am using Hebrew I downloaded and installed the update
"office2003-KB950009-HEB.exe". However, it still happens and I don't know
what to do.

I have tried one thing which is tentatively working. A computer wiz
suggested:

Perhaps your MS Word settings are wrong. To reset all your
settings, exit word, and then delete the following registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0
(you can first click on them and "export" them to save the
settings so you don't delete them permanently). then try running word again
