Bug in Eq field

There seems to be a bug in the equation field {EQ } in Word Office
2004. It affects the handling of backslashes that are intended to
allow the use of commas and backslashes in the final equation.

Here is an example:

The objective is to build a column with two entries; the first entry
is abcde\e and the second entry is abcd. According to the help
file, the code is supposed to be

\a\co1\al(abcde\\e,abcd)

This code worked in all previous versions of Word, but, in Word 2004,
it destroys the alignment of the column. It seems that the backslashes
in all fonts are recognized as this command character...

Does anybody have an idea for a workaround...

Thanks.

The only thing I can suggest is that if you double-click the field, Word
will convert the result to an Equation Editor equation, in which you will be
able to fix up thew result.

I've forwarded your bug report.

Cheers
