Bug in Excel 2007 SP2 charting

Boris

Hi,
I have posted this query before but have now done some additional
experiments and, as I did not get a solution, am posting it again.
There appears to be a bug in Excel 2007 SP2 that seriously affects the
ability to create or copy (or manipulate in any way – or even open) line or
scatter plots with two or more series and two independent y axes (with limits
set manually). Even with modest series (4000 data point in my specific
example) and the data being used being simple numerical data (not formulae,
not linked in other workbooks etc), Excel 2007 grinds to a complete halt
sometimes for 10's of minutes! (The problem also appears in PowerPoint files
contain the sane charts).

I appreciate Excel 2007 is not particularly good with charts (compared with
previous versions) but SP1 (and a previous unlisted hotfix available by
direct request) fixed a similar problem in the initial release. The issue (or
similar manifestations) seems to have reappeared in SP2. I have had the
suggestion of inserting a blank row above the data, which has helped some
(but the program still remains unresponsive for minutes) but...

I have now also had the opportunity to try this on two different machines
(one running XP SP3, the other Vista Business) and have tried manipulating
the same worksheet when restoring my system from an image from last year
(with Office 2007 SP1) - which works fine - and the applying SP2 on this
image - after which Excel no longer cooperates with such worksheets. I think
the procedure I have followed demonstrates that the problem is due to
something in Office 2007 SP2 but would really like to identify a solution -
otherwise I will have to scrap Office 2007 altogether...

Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
Best wishes, Boris.
