Steps to recreate bug:
1. Download and install latest version of Office 2003/XP Add-in: Remove
Hidden Data.
2. Open Files of Type “recover hidden text *.*†(C:\anyfile.doc)
3. Select Tools, Compare and Merge Documents…
4. Choose the same document, from the same location (C:\anyfile.doc)
The error message displayed reads:
This file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Word and a converter
is needed to open it. Do you want to download the converter from the
Microsoft Office web site?
It is clear that the merge cannot use the same file twice, but this message
is misleading and should not appear for this condition. The bug is easily
reproducable.
