Building a book

I am looking for a way to build a document that has many word documents and
xl documents together. I would like to be able to print this out and have
consecutive page numbers on each page. I thought there was a function in
Word but could not find it. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

I think what you are looking for is Master Document.

Search under Help for this feature

Basically, you have a "Book" document that you put links to other word
documents as chapters in it. Your footer /headers run the whole
length of the "book" document.

There used to be a feature called "Binder" in Office 97 that did what
you want but it was problematic and was dropped. Currently includetext
fields are the best method but Master Documents can be used as well. Be
careful with master documents - do NOT manually edit the layout or
delete any section-breaks or you will get unexpected and problematic
behavior!
