Before the system can created the OLAP cube, you must have one or more
projects in the Project Server database and must have published the
project(s) using either Collaborate - Publish - All Information or
Collaborate - Publish - Project Plan. Only published project information
will be summarized into the OLAP cube.
Second, after you confirm that you have published projects in the Project
Server database, you must do the following to set up the building of the
OLAP cube:
1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions
2. Click the Admin menu
3. Click the Manage enterprise features link
4. In the Build the OLAP cube section, select "Yes"
5. In the OLAP cube name and description section, enter your Analysis
Server and then enter a name that the system will give to the cube when it
builds the cube
6. In the Date Range section, select the "Use the earliest start date..."
option
7. In the Date Range for resourced availability section, select the first
option and then set a range into the future, such as "The next 6 months"
8. In the Update Frequency section, select the "Update every" option and
then the frequency and start time for building the OLAP cube (the cube will
not build until the time/date specified)
9. Click the Save Changes button
If you wish to speed up the process, in step 8 you can click the Update Now
button, but ONLY if you are doing so at a time when server traffic is low,
such as on a Saturday/Sunday or at midnight. Depending on how many projects
are in your Project Server database, and how many resources are in the pool
and assigned to tasks, building the OLAP cube can take minutes or even
hours.
Once the system has built the OLAP cube, you should be able to create one or
more Portfolio Anlayzer views in the Manage Views section of PWA. Hope this
helps.
