building knowledge base site

Sunny

Hi,

I am trying to find out if there is anyway to build a Knowledge base site
using FP 2003? It will be using a MySQL as a database. The site can also be
run with PHP and CGI scripts

Hi Sunny,

It sounds like your site is hosted on a Unix/Linux/Apache host. If so, you
can certainly build your web site and web pages using FrontPage. However,
you will need to supply your own server-side database technology to connect
to the MySQL database. You should be able to Google something, or perhaps
your host can provide you with a ready-made solution.

Yes, my site is hosted on a Unix/Linux/Apache host. But my host does not have
anything that is close to Knowledge Base, Only thing that I see that can be
use (that I am currently using) is a Portal System[PHP-Nuke] (I 'm not fond
of it.) and I dont know anything about PHP to make change to it, so I can use
as a Knowledge base system. Since my host support FrontPage, that is why I
want to use it to build my Knowledge Base Site. I will try to google search
for the database connection for mySQL to see how can I connect it using
FP2003.

Hi Sunny,

The problem is, you want to create a server-side application. This requires
programming, either by you or by someone else. FrontPage is designed with
the capability to do server-side ASP and ASP.Net, for Windows operating
systems. So, you're going to have to either find something ready-made that
you can incorporate into a FrontPage web, or write something that you can
incorporate into a FrontPage web.

Chris Leeds, MVP-FrontPage

you're welcome.
I tried a couple of that company's products and they all work pretty well,
there are things they do such as encode the source code and try to force a
copyright notice (not in the code, but on the face of YOUR page), that I
don't like, but it's good once you get a grip on it.
