Bullets and Numbering

D

Dave Soutar

Package: Word 97 SR-2

I have a 2.5 Meg document made up of tables. The bullets
and numbering command will not allow me to insert a
numbered list beginning at 1.It will start the list at 2
even when I have set the numbers command to start at 1.
An error message is also displayed when saving the
document. The message says "-- file may be corrupt-- copy
and save---".

Any ideas?

The size of the document and the fact that it contains tables (and that it's
Word 97) suggest that the message about corruption may be all too true. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm for repair instructions.
Then do yourself a favor and try to reduce Word's load by breaking up the
tables where possible (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/FastTables.htm for some suggestions)
and construct your numbering properly using an outline-numbered list (see
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html and, if
necessary, http://www.syntagma.demon.co.uk/FAQs/ListRestartMethods.htm).
