bullets bullets everywhere

Hi and thanks for taking the time to read my problem.

I have a document that was created with Word 2002. When I open it in Word
2003 all of the styles in both the Style drop-down and the Styles and
Formating task pane are bulleted. Even "Clear Formating" and "More..." have
bullets. Everything in the enitre document is also bulleted. If that's not
weird enough, when I try to modify one of these styles, "Numbering" is
inactive, so I cannot even select it.

Other Details:
When I open the template the document is based on, the styles are ok.
Windows XP Professional 2002 SP1
Word 2003 (11.6113.5703)

Please help,
Mike

1. Display the Styles and Formatting task pane: On the Format menu,
click Styles and Formatting.

2. Select the Normal style.

3. Display the Modify Style dialog box: First, click on the down arrow
to display the menu. Then click Modify.

4. In the Modify Style dialog box, click Format, and then click
Numbering.

5. Choose None as the numbering format.

6. Click OK.

7. Clear "Automatically update" and select "Add to template".

8. Click OK.

9. If any more documents are affected, repeat the procedure for them
(except for the "Add to template" part).

Stefan, you're a genius. Thanks a million!

I thought for sure this was an application error, since even "More..." was
bulleted, but apprently it's some other weirdness.

Thanks again!
