Bullets II: The Return of The Bullets

This is a reoccurring problem. It seems that not always, but quite often,
this problem comes back for no apparent reason. I open a document, and the
Normal style has magically been modified turned to a bulleted list, thereby
making everything in the document bulleted and all other styles bulleted.

Does anyone know why this keps happening and what I can do to prevent it?

Thanks for replying again, Stefan.

Unfortunately that wasn't the problem. None of my styles have
"Automatically update" selected and we, a group of techncal writers, never
use direct formatting; we always use styles for everything. Strange.

Are you saying that modifying the style doesn't work (but it did the
previous time you encountered the error)?

Modifying the style does work every time. But then the bullets
spontaneously come back the next time I open the document. In other words,
I have to fix it every time I open the document.

Is "Automatically update document styles" selected in the Templates
and Add-Ins dialog box (to access this dialog box, choose Templates
and Add-Ins on the Tools menu)? If it is, clear it, and then make the
changes to the document.
