Bullets Question

I am using Word XP. Every time I want to use the bullets by highlighting my
text and then going to Format > Bullets, the settings for the bullets revert
to the default settings, which are not right for me.

I have to constantly reset the settings.

How can I make Word retain my own settings for the bullets?

You can't. But you can modify the List Bullet style to your preferences and
apply it using the built-in shortcut Ctrl+Shift+L.
