How do I burn a file (word, excel) and NOT have it be a Read Only file on the
CD. How I burn files is by right clicking, send to, cdr drive. Thanks

1. You can't, a CD-R by it's very nature is read only.
2. Windows doesn't support that method, you would need to use some third
party UDF writing software.

Thanks Bob, here is another question; if I use a CDRW would it then work? if
not how do you make it a non read only word/excel after you've opened it from
the cd? thanks again! lucyann

no, CDRW-s are read only also, they need to be formatted to erase a file.

1. Nope, same issue. Think of CDRW as "recycling" the disc. You have to
erase the disc to fill it again.
2. In Windows Explorer, copy the file from the CD to a folder on the
hard drive, then r-click the file, select Properties, and UNcheck the
"read-only" box and Apply. You may now edit the file on the hard drive.
