Business Contact Manager DB Won't Start

J

Jan B.

Recently I've had some real issues with the Business Contact Manager in
Outlook. When I start up Outlook, I get the following error: Business
Contact Manager for Outlook could not connect to the shared Database. Do you
want to work off line?

If I select Yes, I'm presented with another message box: Cannot start
Business Contact Manager because the SQL server service (the Business Contact
Manager database service) is not running. Start the service then restart
Outlook. For more information, click Help.

So, I go into the services and try to manually start the SQL service, I get
the following error: Could not start the SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) service on
local computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.

If I go into the SQL server configuration manager and start that DB, I get
the following error: The request failed or the service did not respond in a
timely fashion. Consult the event log or other applicable error logs for
details.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Was your database on another machine?

The likely missing file is the database file.

The BCM database file (.mdf) is typically in this folder on the
machine with the shared database:
Xp: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data
\Microsoft\Business Contact Manager
Vista: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Business Contact
Manager

Do you have an mdf file there?
