Buying MS Office components question

There is MS Office Basic Edition, MS Office Professional edition, etc.

When I buy Basic Edition I get Word, Excel and Outlook.


Do I have to buy whole new office package if I want to add MS Publisher or
MS Project to my colleciton??

You can buy the Office applications as individual packages. Some may have
upgrade versions/rebates available. For what is in each edition see:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/howtobuy/compare.mspx

If you expect to use a program, such as Publisher, it may be less costly to
purchase an edition that includes Publisher than to purchase the OEM only
Basic edition and then add Publisher. You need to compare prices. Office
2003 Basic is only available as a pre-installed OEM version. OEM versions
cannot be transferred to another computer. IMO, you should not buy OEM.

Also, check the programs you have against the programs that qualify for an
upgrade version.
