buying on ebay

Mike Garner

I am looking to buy Microsoft Office and have a few questions:

I want to install it on both my new desktop pc and existing laptop. Can I
do this legitimately? I assume I just use the same licence registration key
on both. I don't want to run into problems when I register it or try to run
updates.

I was thinking about buying it on EBAY but again I'm not sure how legitimate
this is? I would only want to buy it if I get the original CD and licence
registration key. Again would I hit any problems when I try to register it
or run updates if the previous owner had already registered it?

EBAY sells some Office 2002 editions. I assume that 2003 is the latest
version which would explain why the 2002 version is cheaper?

The prices on EBAY (UK) seem to vary wildly, are there any pitfalls I should
look out for?

Thanks,
Mike

You have to rely on 'feedback'
Yes, an old version will be cheaper than latest, 2003
If the current version is shown cheap!!!!! then I think that will tell you
all you need to know
Of course you could allways buy StarOffice, if cost is a concern
http://wwws.sun.com/software/star/staroffice/ doc and excel files are
fully compatible/readable with MS

The normal retail/OEM editions of Office can only be installed on one
computer. The "Student & Teacher" edition is licensed for 3 computers.

I recently bought Office XP Standard from Ebay. During my research before
buying, I found that the vast majority of the auctions appeared to be legit
sales of the OEM editions. OEM means you get a couple CDs in paper sleeves
and a certificate with the product key. I wanted the actual retail edition,
which seems to be relatively rare on Ebay, but I found a complete, used copy
for a good price. I assume that the previous owner of my copy registered it,
since it was used. I had no problems activating it over the internet on the
first try.

2003 is the latest edition and sells for quite a bit more than 2002. I
personally went for 2002 since it was cheaper, fulfilled my needs, and my
college uses it.

Hi, Dan. Office 2003 Students and Teachers Edition can be installed on
three computers. Office XP Students and Teachers Edition can be
installed on only one computer. OEM versions of Office are only "legit"
if they come with a computer; OEM versions are not supposed to be sold
without hardware.
