Bypassing Microsoft Default Settings

I have a very demanding user with 2 similar issues using Outlook 2003
with Word as mail editor.

First, when replying to an email he wants it to default to HTML format
regardless of what format the message is sent to him. Manually changing
it from Plain Text to HTML is "unacceptable".

Also, he doesn't want any Calendar Reminders. I have unticked the
Default Reminder for Calendar in Tools > Options but if the meeting
sender adds their own Reminder he still gets it. Again, this is
"unacceptable".

Any way you can get round these defaults?

Change the User?

Both of these can be addressed with Outlook VBA code, but not with any
built-in Outlook settings.

ROFL.

Don't all sysadmins wish they could do that. Or better yet just do without
users alltogether.

Tough. It can't be done. Outlook ALWAYS replies in the format in which the
original was received. Moreover, where I as a plain text sender to get a
message from someone who insists on replying with HTML, he' be in my Junk
Senders list faster than he can spit.

Tough. The meeting sender determines which options are in the meeting
request. If the receipient doesn't like it, he can decline the meeting or
turn off the reminder once the meeting is in the calendar.

It is for the users that sys admins live (or they'd have no job), but a user
saying "unacceptable" when told "that's the way the program works" is a
waste of time.

Quite so. Like it or lump it! I had a similar problem last year with the
owner of a Garden centre for whom I was running up an EPOS system. "Why
can't I do that?" "Because that's not the way the app works!"

Too true that without users sysadmins would have no job.
I was just being flippant ... reminded me of the old "Bastard Operator From
Hell" stories.
