=c1=c2 gives number instead of true or false?

I'm comparing 2 values by saying =c1=c2 and it gives me a
result of 1 or 0 instead of true or false. How did this
happen?

Tools>Options>Transition. Uncheck "transition formula evaluation".

Unless you are an ex-Lotus user, uncheck all the "transition" items.

thanks. Do you know what would cause that to be checked?
I've never seen it in 1000's of spreadsheets.

I suppose it could have been altered by some code in a workbook, but the most
common reason is that a user has inadvertantly enabled the checkbox.

The setting is saved with the workbook......not a global setting.
