When I go to enter a new appointment, and I go to format text, there is no
way to access any of the fields. Is this the way it should be?

In the Subject of the new appointment, the thing that displays on the
calendar, yes, it is plain text only. You can format the text in the "body"
of the appointment, but that only shows up when you open the appointment.
